I did originally have this uploaded as a sketch, but I realised it was probably a little too complete to qualify as such.
Anyway, this is just a little something I have been working on. My first submission to DA. It is my vision of Samuel Vimes from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. This, of course, would be from around the era of Guards! Guards! since ol' Vimes is sitting in an Ankh-Morpork gutter with his good friend Mr. Drink. I tried drawing him with sandals first, but realised boots were far easier. I want to improve it somewhere along the line and I've no idea what I could do. I'll be quite frank - I'm rather terrible at drawing and this is all just done in good fun during my spare time. I do want to learn new things, however, in order to foster whatever artistic side might be lurking beneath my surface. Should I attempt further shading? Colouring-in with Photoshop? Really, I've no idea. I also have a feeling that one of those eyes is squiff...
PS - Bonus points to anyone who guesses my real-life inspiration for Vimes' facial features. The title is a clue. Also, before anyone harps on at me, I have always pictured Vimes looking a little older than most fan depictions.
Congrats on a great drawing of Vimes! He's my favorite from the Discworld books. I'm delighted to see him getting attention here on DA.
My first guess at your model would be Clint Eastwood, but upon closer inspection I'm not sure.... I'm not that familiar with British actors, so perhaps I'm at a disadvantage there.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
